Department of Tourism Region IV-A Director Rebecca V. Labit explained in her message that tourism remains a vibrant industry not only in the Philippines but in other countries as well. She proudly boasted of the significant rise in tourism activities like farm and eco-tourism looping heritage, culture, arts and culinary including pilgrimage that is greatly affected by improved accessibility through construction and opening of access roads that connect remote destinations to the main hub. She also mentioned that DOT has met its success in improving institutional governance with the support of the LGU partners and stakeholders with quality concerns for tourism standards, legislative actions to protect not only the interest of the tourist but the stakeholders as well. Likewise, DOT has been providing massive information and policy directions that will make the people from all walks of life including the retired, senior citizens, PWDs and persons with special needs respond and enjoy the experience of travel. A presentation on tourism overview that enlightened the participants was shown by Department of Tourism secretary Wanda Teo with which she emphasized the efforts exerted by the DOT to encourage tourists and travelers to come and enjoy the tourist attractions in the country. On the other hand, Mr. Emerson Atanacio, President of Terra Verde Eco Farm showed a power point presentation on what Terra Verde Eco farm has to offer and discussed the accessibility of tourist attractions and activities. Ms. Adela Kono, a PWD, humbly discussed the problems encountered by persons with disabilities in travelling citing experiences of discomfort in transportation and accessibility in buildings and amenities. An open forum gave enough time for queries, comments and exchange of ideas for students from UP Los Baños, UPHR Molino, and Lyceum of the Philippines Cavite Campus and raffle prizes from sponsors were drawn and given to lucky winners as facilitated by Bay Leaf Hotel General Manager, Ed Vitug.
