LUCENA CITY - Despite the prevailing Coronavirus desease (COVID-19) outbreak in the country, the communist New People's Army (NPA) rebels are determined to inflict damage to government troops in the field.

Thus said Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade, Jr., commander of the Armed Forces' Southern Luzon Command (Solcom) during the command celebration of its 33rd founding anniversary on Thursday.

Themed, "33 years of Service in Sustaining Peace and Security in Southern Luzon", the occasion was celebrated by the command in a very simple manner, on orders of Parlade who earlier cancelled the preparation of the supposed bigger event.

"I prefered to pursue this celebration because if I would have it reescheduled, we do not know when the problem of COVID- 19 will end. So I decided to hold it today even in a very simple way provided that we practice social distance", said Parlade.

In his speech, Perlade reminded his troops in the field to be prepared at all times from possible attack by the communist guerillas.

"While assisting health personnel and the police in enforcing the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), our troops should always be alert as the rebels are hell- bent on harming them, especially now that the NPA anniversary in March 29 is nearing", said Parlade.

Solcom is vigorously supporting the ECQ in Southern Luzon to ensure that the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) will be able to perform its mandate of stopping the spread of the virus.

"While providing all these support, Solcom is committed to continue performing its duties to secure communities, maintain peace, and not allow the CPP NPA virus to inflict further harm to our already traumatized communities due to the COVID-19", Perlade said.

The Solcom commander said that while COVID-19 inflicts the respiratory system, CPP- NPA virus is probably worse, as it has already inflicted close to 80,000 casualties for 5 decades now, until the E.O. 70 vaccine has been formulated.

He said the CPP virus attacks the cerebral system, hence impacts the thinking of the young and vulnerable people. While COVID-19 has gone global, the CPP NPA virus is global too, but afflicts mostly the Filipinos, because this strain was invented by Filipino traitor and CPP founder Jose Ma Sison.

"We will not allow our forces to be harmed by these traitors, especially during this time of crisis. It is called community defense and self-defense. That's my firm order to our troops", Parlade added.
