TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - Rice farmers in Tayabas City may soon benefit from a planned rice processing plant that will rise in Barangay Ibabang Palale. Better access to modern processing facilities is expected to help improve harvest quality and reduce post-harvest losses.

Mayor Piwa Lim on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, convened key local government offices to ensure the proper and efficient development of the proposed agricultural facility. The meeting focused on coordinating preparations related to the planned rice processing project.

The project will be implemented through the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Mechanization Program of the Department of Agriculture. The program is being carried out in partnership with the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHILMECH).

Once completed, the planned Rice Processing System is expected to help improve the quality of harvested rice, strengthen post-harvest operations, and increase the income of Tayabas farmers. The project also aims to provide farmers with better access to rice processing facilities and modern farming technology.

Support for the project is being provided through a national government mechanization program aimed at improving rice production in farming communities. Coordination between the city government and agricultural agencies is expected to help speed up the development of the facility.

Under the RCEF Mechanization Program, PHILMECH provides modern farm equipment and post-harvest facilities aimed at reducing production costs and minimizing crop losses among rice farmers. Government data showed that the program was created to help improve the productivity, profitability, and competitiveness of Filipino rice farmers through farm mechanization and upgraded agricultural facilities.
