LUCENA CITY, Quezon — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is expected to join on Thursday, October 21, the joint meeting of the National Task Force and the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in CALABARZON at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.

According to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the joint meeting would be an avenue to discuss the recent accomplishments of the national and regional task forces in its continued efforts to sustain peace and order among local communities and provide basic services in conflict-affected areas in the region.

Joining the President in his visit are NTF-ELCAC Vice Chair and National Security Adviser Secretary Hermogenes C. Esperon, Jr. and DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año.

Secretary Año, who is also the Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security, will provide updates on the socio-economic overview and security situation in the region.

Highlights of the joint NTF-RTF-ELCAC meeting also include the turnover of programs, projects, and activities of member agencies to various focus areas. These include the distribution of food packs for former rebels to be spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and distribution of coconut hybrids to farmers from the Philippine Coconut Authority Region 4A.

The Department of Trade and Industry Region IV-A will also turnover livelihood kits under the Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay- Livelihood Seeding Program (NSB-LSP).

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Region IV-A is also set to turnover scholarship grants amounting to P7,997,689 to 1,116 beneficiaries from various towns in Quezon province who recently completed the agency’s scholarship traning. Aside from the scholarship grants, recipients will also receive starter toolkits.

Other government agencies including the Department oif Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, National Commission in Indigenous Peoples and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources are also expected to turnover assistance and other livelihood development packages.

On December 4, 2018, the President issued Executive Order (EO) No. 70 that created the NTF-ELCAC and institutionalized a whole-of-nation approach towards achieving sustainable peace.

It aims to address the root causes of local communist armed conflict by prioritizing and harmonizing the delivery of basic services and social development packages by the government.

Prior to joining the NTF-RTF-ELCAC meeting, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will lead the inspection of the 7.42 kilometer bypass road in Sariaya town— a multi-million infrastructure of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) constructed under the Build, Build, Build program.

The bypass road which opened May this year has reduced the traffic volume along the Daang Maharlika Road and Manila South Road (MSR) by 40 percent, according to the DPWH Region 4A.

It serves as an alternate route that is much safer and more efficient for at least 15,000 daily commuters who usually travel from Sariaya to Lucena City.

The road project which starts at the MSR Daang Maharlika Road and ends at Quezon Eco-Tourism Road significantly reduced the travelling time from Sariaya to Lucena City from 45 minutes to 10 minutes. — PIA4A
